Welding a quadhelix appliance
In preparation, bands should should have no contact to the model in the area to be welded if work is to be carried out on the model. This can be done by waxing out beforehand or by grinding out after fabrication of the model. In this way, the risk of damaging the bands during welding can be minimized.
As with other appliances that use prefabricated bands, it is recommended that the bands are lying hollow in the area of the intended joint weld for the locks. This minimizes the risk of accidentally perforating the bands, see also here in the middle of the page: “Welding on prefabricated bands”.
When working on bands on a model, it is advisable to work with welding times that tend to be shorter, e.g. with a pulse duration of no more than 1 – 2 milliseconds.
As always, we start with a freshly ground electrode.
