Reworking a basket ring

A cup that sits too high changes the entire effect of a ring – and the deep setting of the setting is one of those reworking operations that can take a disproportionate amount of time using conventional methods. This tutorial shows how this task can be carried out much more efficiently with the PUK: from preparation to targeted separation and repositioning of the frame to clean welding.

1. The challenge

The basket of this ring is very high and should be set lower.
A challenge that would otherwise take a lot of time.

2. Preparation

First, the cup is sawn out and cut to the desired height.
To make it more comfortable to wear, it is filed at an angle on both sides.

3. the new squad

Then a frame is made. It should be slightly larger than the basket so that it protrudes a little.

The opening in the ring rail is filed open and the basket is fitted. Steps are filed on the inside into which the cadre is welded.

4. welding

After the first welding point, you can easily check the position and correct it if necessary
.
The frame is now firmly welded all around and reinforced with a little welding wire (0.25 mm) if necessary.

5. final assembly

Now the basket is put on and the claws are welded with one or two points, depending on their position on the inside or outside.

The burr that was created when filing the joint strengthens it even more.

6. result

Finally, the ring shank is pressed onto the adjoining prong and the welds are lightly polished over.
