The excavator shovel was made from 16 individual parts from 1 mm thick stainless steel sheet according to our own plans and the shovel was doubled to 2 mm thickness at the most heavily loaded points. The weld seams were not reworked in order to preserve the weld bead with its characteristic scaling, exactly as on the original model. The frame parts and steering connectors were cut with a laser and then welded to the bearing bushes on the joints using a Lampert welding machine. Steam locomotives are among the most challenging model building projects in general. In this case, the realization of the chassis in brass was an additional challenge. The builder decided to tack the brass parts together using individual welding points and to fix them in place and then solder the seams for reasons of appearance.
